Biography
A scholar in context
Al-Suyūṭī was an Egyptian polymath whose writings encompass hadith, Qurʾānic sciences, language, law, history, and exegesis. He completed Tafsīr al-Jalālayn after al-Maḥallī and separately compiled the expansive report-centered al-Durr al-manthūr.
Together these works show two complementary forms of commentary: compressed explanation for study and broad collection of transmitted material for research.
