A scholar in context
Al-Ṭabarī was a historian, jurist, and commentator whose Jāmiʿ al-bayān became one of the foundational works of Qurʾānic exegesis. It assembles transmitted reports, variant readings, linguistic evidence, and reasoned preference among interpretations.
The Tafsir Al-Qurʾan series places selections from his commentary beside seven other major works so readers can follow continuities and disagreements verse by verse.
